Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in P17 as his team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the session, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
