Catherine's Annual Yuletide Musical Celebration Spotlights Unsung Heroes

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.

The sizable congregation will listen to a blend of carols, music and readings from stars like award-winning actors.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to public life following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists aided by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be people from various age groups.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
